12:00pm until 5:30pm

Bookmark the date as this one for the whole family to enjoy! The BMWDCSA is heading off to Thorndon Park Reserve in North East Adelaide. This is a community park where there are undercover grounds, BBQ’s, spectacular walks, water features and lots of area for the kids or even yourself to run around! Please note this event is intended for all members and family to attend, we wish for everyone to get to know each other and for our club committee to be formally introduced. We will be providing a free BBQ for all members, and drinks will also be available for a gold coin donation!

The gathering will begin at the car park just right of the entrance; it’s fairly large you can’t miss it. There photo opportunities will be available as we will try to arrange cars accordingly to accommodate everyone. The park is safe and most of the parking is visible from inside the park. No Pets allowed unfortunately. We plan to have many new faces out with us and hopefully the weather will be on our side. You are required to BYO chairs, tables etc. if you need them. There are a few seats there but could be occupied already! Also BYO anything else you may want to enjoy with your Vorst or share with your family.

After the lunch we intend on gathering everyone to join us on a leisurely drive through the hills and lovely surrounding country side. The cruise shouldn’t take up all day and will be a nice ending to the gathering. Those that will require leaving after lunch are more than welcome to. End location for the cruise is yet unknown however suggestions can be made or even a route can be established on the day.

Please bring camera’s and anything else you may need for the day, if you have dietary requirements please feel free to bring it along and we can cook it up for you!

Hope to see you all there along with your Driving Machines

Regards

Please note: BMWDSCA and BMWCCA, its affiliates and its organizers cannot be held liable for any loss, damage or injury either as a direct or indirect result of an event organized or affiliated with BMWDCSA. By joining and following any BMWDCSA event, you agree to these terms. Any illegal or foolish acts performed during a BMWDSCA event will result in ejection from your seat and the club, and possibly notification of the relevant authorities. Remember, a lot of cameras will be around, foolish acts caught on camera can be submitted to the police as evidence against you. YOU DRIVE AND PRESENT AT YOUR OWN RISK.
NOTE: BE SENSIBLE. Remember, that if the public sees one or two idiots in the group, they will assume everyone is an idiot, as would the Police, and please keep our image clean.

Car details: BMW e36 328i Convertible

How long was the search for your BMW?
Around 6 months, i had seen the car several times driving around, older Italian guy owned it and one day at the car wash told him one day I am going to buy his car off him, after a couple of week of seeing the car, stopping and talking to him i ended up buying it off him before he went back to Italy to live.

Why this model and not any others?
We have had BMW’s in our family for years, mum had an E30 and that’s where it all started. I love the E30 shape but i wanted something with slightly more power and newer so the E36 was the preferred choice.

What things have been done since purchase?
Hmm let’s start with the first purchase,
Full HID Headlight kit, 55W low beam 8k, 70W high beam also 8k. Did AE’s at the same time and modified the projectors. Then bought all my suspension, got a full front and rear Poly Bush kit, Brand New Bilstein PSS9 Coil overs, Adjustable Rear lower control Arms, Front Castor strut tops, rear sub frame re-enforcement kit as well as Moyle Lower control arms on the front. Rolling with 17×8 et19 and 17×9 et20 E34 M5 wheels all round. Right at the moment I am currently completing a full interior redo, with new Stereo, custom Sub enclosure and silver dash parts.

What upsets have happened?
Nothing worth noting, when i bought the car the front shocks were on their way out by the time i did my rebuild they were stuffed and I am currently getting a slight VANOS rattle but saving up the money for an engine and vanos rebuild.

What moments have really showed the driving pleasure of your BMW?
Probably the BMW cruses i have been on, just driving with other fellow enthusiasts that really care about their cars gives me a buz. But also living in the hills and many of the night hills runs I’ve been on have been awesome.

(Also blowing off a 5.7L VY SS with the top down was fun: D)

Future improvements?
None really, just wish enjoy the car!

How long was the search for your BMW?

The search for this particular BMW took me about 9 months. It included extensive comparison between the M5, 540i and 530i all in the e39 shape, however after a fair bit of consideration the decision was made and the 530iMsport was in the driveway.

Why this model and not any others?

I chose the following model due to recommendation to fellow bloggers and dealerships. They all advised me of the various engines present in the E39 5 series and what they had to offer; the choice was hard to make and varied between the M54 engine and the s62 engine to the m62 engine. At that current time the M5′s where around the 60k mark, so the 530i was the best “bang for buck” solution. I kept searching until I was able to find one with most specifications to throw at me.

What things have been done since purchase?

Hmmm, fair bit actually, let me list them for you:

1- Cooling system overhaul
2- Exhaust camshaft sensor.
3- belt tensioners
4-upper and lower control arms and upper control arms central bushes. OEM.
5- Tie rods.
6- OEM rear springs.
7- B8 bilstiens Shock and struts
8- Shock and strut mounts and fresh spring pads.
9-Quad 76mm Eisenmann sport exhaust.
10- OEM rear view camera
11- OEM bluetooth and voice control retrofit.
12- Rear upper wishbone replaced. OE
13- Front carbon fiver voresteiner splitter replica.
14- Tinted.
15- OEM control modules for folding mirror.
16- M5 mirror replica.
17- OEM SMG wheel retrofit with tri color stitching.
18-exhaust camshaft sensor replaced.
19- Intravee Ipod Integration.
20- Lumidock for ipod to dock in the ashtray area.
21- AC schnitzer type III 19*8.5 front and 19*9.5 rear.
22- Alpina classic rims same size as before.

What upsets have happened?

The upsets that I encountered along the way were both camshaft sensors and the exhaust had failed. This made the Beamer operate in limp mode and the intake made the car stall sometimes. I later had to do any further future proofing to avoid any further upsets, hopefully.

Moments of pleasure:

The most enjoyment of a car is when you actually drive it after all the work you put into it, and so I was rewarded by the drive with the club on windy roads and get to meet other enthusiasts. The other time is when I drove my mates M3 modified, showed me how M cars are different to normal cars.

Future improvements?

Headers. supercharger or CAI and a tune.

How long was the search for your BMW?

I brought this car of my brother’s mate who went to school with us so I’ve known this car for a lot longer than I’ve owned it. I was always into rotaries especially RX3s and previously owned a series 2 RX7. But when I found out he was selling it I got first choice in buying it of him (keeping it in the group so to speak). Back in the day it was pretty well known for its number plates 9mm.

Why this model and not any others?

It was pure luck that i own this particular model as I didn‘t know the difference between an E36 and an E46 until i started looking into mods and engine sizes. I can honestly say I don’t regret owning this model as i love the shape of the body and the practical interior. Everything is simple to use and quality engineered.

What things have been done since purchase?

Where do I start? I have owned this car for 11 or so years now, ever since I was an apprentice in Stainless steel boiler making. I have been inspired and gotten a lot of ideas from Performance BMW magazines. I started of like everyone does exhaust, air filter, and car tint and also did a lot of preventative maintenance first. Then it was the Recaro and Momo interior then the Alpine sound system, the M tech body kit, DBA slotted disc brakes and a new paint job. I’ve done some small upgrades to the performance of the engine like an Alpina throttle body, LSD diff. lighten fly wheel. 288 schrick cam. ported and polish head. Balanced / blue printed bottom end, JE custom pistons, MSD ignition, Autronic computer and decided to turn it into a 2.7 on Nos (Just some small upgrades). My rims are my latest buy. I also fabricated myself the S/S air box and pipe work which always gets a few looks. Also the s/s dash which holds the auto meter gauges.

What upsets have happened?

The weekend of my 21st birthday my best mate flew in from WA to surprise me. Having a few drinks at his place he moved my car out of the drive way to get his car in. But then actually took the car around the block and got it sideways and wiped out the rear left hand side into a gutter. That was Friday night and my 21st was on Saturday night but in true mate style he paid for everything eg new rim. New diff. new springs and shock new axle and a bit of repair to the paint. We laugh about it now.

What moments have really showed the driving pleasure of your BMW?

I think most definitely catching up with the guys and being involved in the club. I also just like going for drives. Getting good comments from others also makes it all worthwhile.

Future improvements?

A turbo or supercharger would be nice.

We are proud to announce the next cruise will be up to Hahndorf to enjoy a nice lunch at The German Arms Hotel on Sunday the 14th August 2011. We are expected to be at the Restaurant by 12 pm, therefore we will be meeting at Burnside Village Car park corner of Cator Street and Portrush Road at 10:30 am for an 11:00 am departure.

The lunch prices are fairly reasonable and the menu can be found through the website here http://germanarmshotel.com.au/dining/

The driving pace and route is very casual up the Freeway to the destination. If you have further questions don’t be too hesitant to ask. A big “please” is that we get a rough indication of numbers; it will help us out as we need to contact The German Arms Hotel prior to arrival for seating.
